Subj: letter from an artist in despair

dearest gold diggers
I am so inspired to see your artwork, I too is a hard anime lover and Gold digger is one of my favorite. the only thing I wanted to know is how you guys do those hyper cool pixel art drawings. Will you guys give me some Ideas on what software should I try to apply in my PC? please reply at Mamoru630@aol.com
Thanks and keep those pencils and inks high

<---reply--->

Pixel art is very difficult compared to standard art.
Heres how *I* prepare my art for web publishing.

1:Start with an inked line drawing. keep the lines in the drawing clear and crisp. Try not to use too many lines to render the details.
2:scan in the line drawing at around 72 dots per inch.
3.If you have a painting program such as photoshop, threshold the line art so that all of the greys are turned into black or white.
4.change the graphic mode of the picture to RGB and carefully color the picture using as few colors as possible.
5. after the picture is finished, change the pictures graphic mode to index color

Good luck!
Fred.

hello i was wondering, i'm satarting a comic but the publishers want a minimum of 5000 copies printed is there an easier way of publishing my comic?
and ofcourse golddigger is the best i am a big fan.

James Prevett

<---reply--->

Sorry about this, James but there is no easy answer to that question. The current state of the comic book market is very unforgiving to beginners. When I started out, my run was 1200 books. if I would have started now, it would have had to be in an anthology like furlough from Radio Comix.

Currently, I'm lobbying to Radio to get a new series started for new artists like Mangazine used to be.. that would be perfect... anyway for now, I'd search the web and libraries for comic publishing info... I know of one book, but the name of the title escapes me. (it's out there though..)

Good luck, James.
Fred.

Subj: Shiiko and Ace's Planes
Date: 98-12-23 16:02:27 EST
From: eindecker@yahoo.com (Ryan Eindecker)
To: FredGDP@aol.com

Hello Mr. Perry!

My girlfriend, Kathy (shiiko@yahoo.com) sent you some e-mail
regarding a couple of things she wanted to send you. Well, those
things will be in the mail and you'll get them before long.

And about Ace. I was flipping through GD Perfect Memory and noticed
he had a V-22 Osprey that unfortunately gets destroyed. I really think
you oughta give him another, because I love the Osprey and I think it
suits the book. (Y'know, little known stuff that ACTUALLY exists but
no one knows it.) Also, I noticed that with the exception of an F-14
Tomcat, Ace never flies anything small. (EG: C-130, V-22, C-5, etc.
etc.) I think it would be cool to have him in something like an OV-10
Bronco or a WACO Glider. (Okay, maybe not the WACO...) If he's such a
good pilot, don't you think he should be able to prove it a little
better? Put that boy in a Falcon or, dare I say it, a MiG-29 Fulcrum!
Unless he can loop a B-52 or his C-5, then I'll shut up. And
Helicopters don't count unless it's an AH-1 SuperCobra or a KA-50 Hokum.

<---reply--->

Actually, I was planning to bring Ace in in his new Osprey come issue 48... but unfortunately something happens to it..

I think putting Ace in a falcon or a fulcrum is an unfair advantage for him though... I can build up more tention in a story if he's stuck in a dog-fight with a DC-10 and a load of commuters :)
Fred.

To: FredGDP@aol.com

TO whom it may concern: FRED!!!

yes- it's me again an old fan of yours whom you haven't heard of for a very long time

Actually I'm the guy that guessed whether you were coming to NY- but you never came Either you had tons of work ahead of you (which I dutifuly understand)- or you came and I didn't see you...Oh well...

By the way I am here to resolve some impotant things with you and your career..

First you have done a tremendous job and a good one to make GD a classic- even though 90% of your readers are in the standard Texas area and maybe the rest are in the West Coast-which makes me a fan of the EAst- See I'm from NYC as of you know right now. (My bro can't talk to you cause he's in BOston(Winshester) for HS...) Basically What I am planning to do is tell my freinds at the regular comic place up in my part of town(GD) so that you can get all your past issues of GD. THe problem is we haven't recieved from you ANY issue since issue #15, ain't that something? I mean sure you're piled with work and,yes, I haven't been able to get in touch with you earlier becasue of college and so forth...But we are so behind its' not even funny-
I'm the only guy out of the crowd that has to write down from the NET upon each and every ep' until now (which is #45) to each of the guys in the comic store and they're still unsatisfied until they see the damn thing...like they say action speaks louder than word but...I'm going to try to get the Name and Address for the place and you can just ship in at LEAST the novel's for the first fifteen ep's of it and the rest right in paperabck. That way the peeps down in NY will see that I'm tellin the whole truth for so long and not becoming another chatterbox.-It's gonna be hard for both of us for this one but if we can make it you and I can see some happy smiles over the New Year...

Two-now that I've read the synopsis of every single episode until now- I have a few suggestions (keep in mind they're only ideas..) Frankily, the sisters sometimes tend to team up and seperate within their "jobs" to take care of certain aspects of evil- why not each of them handle their ultimate fate? Whether if it's to save hostages from an evildoer or destroy the guy who bombarded their sweet one's planet to kingdom come or anything of the like,or even yet the ressurection of a bad guy in order to make him even worse than he/she is, etc. (Hey you're close to the Fiftieth issue- make it special.) This is what i'm talkin about AFTER you've sought to run out of ideas- which inyour case i can bring a scalpel, pick them out from your brain, and STILL you'll be loaded with thoughts...Oh my bro had an idead before he left- to get a real good guy mixed with intellect,fighting skill,and a great personality that'll charm the heck out of ALL the sisters, BUT he's been assigned to kill them all-
the plot tends to twist around blah blah blah...it's an idea we'd like to share with you- so please give this some time before you thorw it out the window just like you'd do with leftover pizza (unless you'd be having that with anchovies-yecch!)

Third I just wanna be freinds- real good ones. NOt those ones that mail you with CRAP until the cows come home, or the one that sweat you so much the details will tear out of you, just good ones to KIT just like your family in Antarctic Press (humor). I'm in Astoria Queens, a litle Greek town that contains and welcomes any ethnical culture you can think of.I'm also a music major - I study violin and some composition skills (which in that case I can do the GD overture for you if you want). Yes I have been a little immature in the past, but that's when I was in HS- now time changes within a blink of an eye..I mean dude, in some point of you life you gotta come to NY and play the masters of BLanka in Alpha 3 (which me I'm still mastering Ryu), the best pizza and chesseburgers around...and the ladies, YES THE LADIES!!! It's an advantage to go and see it when you get the chance, just mail me first cause we got a lot to talk about.

Oh by the way I was wondering if you stilln have those Definitely not Ninja High School comis for adults only still on stock- if not- I'll just go get your Riding red (hee hee hee.) When you say that you need a verification to prove that I'm 18+ (cause I'm 19) can I just write that I'm nineteen and give you proof with a photocopy of my Non-drivers State I.D from NYC?

Other than that I hope you have a good Christmas and a sensational new year and I hope you are intersted in SOME of my ideas and so forth- which there will be more as the time goes by..

THank you for your time and cooperation.

By the way- my name's Aristotle

I just moved to Rochester NY. Going to the city is a mighty long drive... but the train is a good way to go. Anyway, I don't have that many issues with me in rochester, but if you can give me the address of stores in your area that would be interested in recieving a few complementary issues, I'll have some sent in from Texas. as well as something from me over here on lake Eerie. Anyway, I appreciate all the great suggestions you've givin me(and your brother's idea would make a great story to). It's great to hear how my creation can spark so much more creative ideas. If I run out of ideas of my own, Its good to have others for inspiration!

Subj: gd (what else is there?)

Hey Fred Perry,
The unthinkable happed, I MISSED AN ISSUE OF GOLD DIGGER!!!!!!!!
Luckly i was able to order one from ap, but i have a question is gd now monthly?
because gd 44 came one month after gd 43 (at my comic book dealer) so i didn't bother looking for it and as a result missed it.
(and had an unpleasent experiance of seeing my new issue was 45)

keep up the good work,
smercury

ps because of your comic i have and extra $10 because i made a bet way back when brianna talked to the dragon orb that see could use magic because she is related to theo diggers and is burdened(?) by being to smart to understand magic.
pps will the next color issues of gd be the start of the thrid beta story arc (at the end of the gd beta color issue it said next: beta-3)?

<---reply--->

1)Yup GD is monthly now... its not easy but it's fun to do..
2)And actually, The next GD color issue will show Gina and Brit's first adventure *ever*...

Till then,
Fred.

Hello Hardcharger:
This one is mainly to congratulate you in probably the best comic out there. No angst, No downer plots, No empty victories, just fun, laughter, and top notch artwork. Luckily I have been able to get most of the issues, except for the mangazine ones, and I haven't given up on searching them up.
Let me get to the juice of the letter. I'd like to build a Gold Digger based website, tentatively named "BRIANNA'S SHOOTING GALLERY," mainly containing info and pics of Brianna, along with some info and pics on the most popular bad guys. The pics would be both downloaded from the Internet and scanned directly from the comic, and colored with Photoshop. If you have any conditions that I should meet, please E-mail me and let me know.
Thank you for your time, thank you for your great art, and finally, thank you for GOLDDIGGER.
From an obsessed fan, an admirer, and a fellow MARINE, keep up the great work.
Yours truly,
William F. Restrepo

<---reply--->

A new GD websight featuring Brianna? I suppose it would be alright with me. But please do not borrow any images from other websites without that site owners permission. If you really need art, let me know and I'll try to provide some for you. (Or better still, get hooked up with the GD web ring)
I'm going to start creating GD artpacs again soon... (As soon as I'm back on schedule that is)
Also, it may be a great idea to scan images in from the comics and color them. (And there are a lot to choose from.)
Fred.

Subj: MORE ACTION FIGURES!

To: FREDGDP@AOL.COM

HEY FRED!

WILL THERE BE ANY OTHER ACTION FIGURES BASED ON YOUR
CHARACTERS FROM GD? AND ARE YOU PLANNING TO HAVE ACTION
FIGURES BASED ON YOUR NEW STORY LEGACY? I HEARD YOU
WERE GONNA BE AT KATSUCON 5, IS THIS TRUE. I'LL BE ATTENDING
THIS CON AND HAVE BEEN TRYING TO GET A TABLE SO I CAN
DISPLAY OR EVEN SELL SOME OF MY ART WORK. FROM READING
GD I CAN TELL YOU'VE PLAYED A WIDE VARIETY OF VIDEO GAMES,
AN' I KNOW YOU MUST'VE PLAYED A MEGA (ROCK) MAN GAME OR
TWO. I WAS WONDERING IF IT WOULD'NT BE TO MUCH TROUBLE
IF YOU COULD DRAW ME A PICTURE OF MEGA MAN WHILE AT
THE CON IF IT'S NOT TOO MUCH TROUBLE. THAT'S ALL I GOTTA
SAY FOR NOW, I GUESS I'LL SEE YOU IN FEBRUARY (HOPEFULLY)

LAMAR ABRAMS

<---reply--->

Hmm.. is your caps key all right?
Anyway, The next action figure set will be Gina and Brit... I'm packing in a lot of great accessories for Gina too... including a daemon mouse and her "Gina-Launcher" grappling line.
So for my plans to attend Katsu-5 are preceeding... I'll see you at the con, then we can talk Mega-Man... =)

Fred.

And that's all for now,
Stryypgia (:
